A pair of Moor's Heads in Caltagirone ceramic, 25 cm tall, with the Braids and pearls pattern. Shaped and painted by hand.
The Braids and pearls pattern changes the headdress: instead of a crown there are raised braids and rows of glazed pearls, in shades of grey and red.
Moor's Heads come from a Palermo legend: a young woman finds out that the Moor she loves already has a family, cuts off his head and turns it into a pot for basil. Since then they have been made in pairs, him and her, and they are one of the symbols of Sicilian ceramics.
They are shaped and painted by hand in Caltagirone, so every pair has small differences in the faces and colours. They are hollow and can be used as planters, or left empty on a sideboard, in the hall or on the terrace.
