Wall mask in clay and lava stone, shaped and painted by hand by Filippo Messina. Colours: metallic bronze and grey. One of a kind, about 40-45 × 30-35 cm.
The face is wrinkled, with a lined forehead and hair standing straight up above it, like a crest. The ears are large, with a raised ring on each lobe, and the mouth is open and round. The glaze has bronze and grey reflections, with a few darker patches.
Mascarune are the stone faces that in Sicily were placed on doorways and fountains to keep bad luck away. They take their look from the masks of Greek theatre.
Filippo Messina shapes it in clay with Etna lava stone and finishes it with coloured glazes. No two masks are the same. Hang it on a wall indoors, in the garden or on a façade.
