The tradition

Moor's Heads Blue scrolls, H25

In this version the scrolls are light and dark blue on a white ground, with a yellow crown: the colours closest to traditional Caltagirone majolica.

Moor's Heads come from a Palermo legend: a young woman finds out that the Moor she loves already has a family, cuts off his head and turns it into a pot for basil. Since then they have been made in pairs, him and her, and they are one of the symbols of Sicilian ceramics.

They are shaped and painted by hand in Caltagirone, so every pair has small differences in the faces and colours. They are hollow and can be used as planters, or left empty on a sideboard, in the hall or on the terrace.

Care and shipping

Can they stay outdoors?

Yes, the glaze stands up to sun and rain. In winter, if it freezes, it's better to bring them under cover.

Can I use them as planters?

Yes, they are hollow. For real plants, put a plastic pot inside so the water doesn't sit against the ceramic.

How do I clean them?

With a soft cloth and a neutral detergent. No abrasive products.

How are they shipped?

In shock-proof packaging, to Italy and worldwide.
