Wall mask in clay and lava stone, shaped and painted by hand by Filippo Messina. Colours: red, blue, gold and black. One of a kind, about 40-45 × 30-35 cm.
The head is smooth, with large ears and closed eyes; two golden tusks come out at the sides of the mouth. The glaze is applied in patches of red, blue, gold and black that blend together, and it changes from one piece to the next.
Mascarune are the stone faces that in Sicily were placed on doorways and fountains to keep bad luck away. They take their look from the masks of Greek theatre.
Filippo Messina shapes it in clay with Etna lava stone and finishes it with coloured glazes. No two masks are the same. Hang it on a wall indoors, in the garden or on a façade.
