Without the majolica colours, the black pine cone puts the shape first: the raised scales cast different shadows depending on the light.
In Sicily a pine cone is given as a wish for luck and plenty, and placed at the front door or on the gate pillars. In Caltagirone they have been made in ceramic for centuries, with the scales shaped one by one.
Each pine cone is shaped and painted by hand, so the scales and colours vary a little from piece to piece. It looks good on a shelf, a table or the terrace.
