A 28 × 28 cm Etna lava stone charger plate with the black and white triangles of the Tric Trac pattern, like backgammon points.
Tric trac is the old name for backgammon. The pattern borrows its points: long, narrow triangles that alternate, light glaze next to dark stone. Under a white plate it makes the whole setting stand out.
The base is a 0.6 cm slab of Etna lava stone. The glaze is applied by hand and then fired in the kiln, so every charger has small differences in colour and pattern.
Under a dinner plate it frames the place setting and protects the tablecloth. On its own it becomes a platter for cheese, cured meats or sushi in the middle of the table.
