A square 22 × 22 cm Etna lava stone plate with a row of black and white triangles, like the points on a backgammon board.
Tric trac is the old name for backgammon. The pattern borrows its points: long, narrow triangles that alternate, light glaze next to dark stone, with an almost optical effect.
The base is a 0.6 cm slab of Etna lava stone. The glaze is applied by hand, with a brush or an airbrush, then fired in the kiln, so every plate has small differences in colour and pattern.
At 22 cm it is the right size for starters, desserts, sushi or a tartare. Put it in the fridge for 10 minutes before serving and it keeps the food cool.
